2007 Presidential Dollar Coin Value: How Much Is It Worth?

2007 Presidential Dollar Coin Value: How Much Is It Worth?

The 2007 Presidential Dollar series covers four presidents — Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison — across Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco mints. Guide estimates for business and proof strikes sit around $4.96 at MS65 or PR65, according to USA Coin Book.

That is not a guaranteed offer. Satin-finish specimens from collector mint sets and error coins require individual assessment.

Sorting your coin by president, mint, finish and edge-lettering orientation is the real first step.

Which 2007 Presidential Dollar Versions Are Worth Money?

  • Satin-finish versions (P and D, all four presidents) came only in 2007 mint sets and require individual assessment — no standard guide price is listed.
  • San Francisco proof strikes (S mint) for all four presidents carry a PR65 guide estimate of about $4.96 each per USA Coin Book.
  • Missing edge lettering errors are reported for 2007 Presidential Dollars and can carry a premium depending on condition and authentication.
  • Weak or partial edge lettering errors, specifically reported on the 2007 George Washington dollar, are a separate collectible category.
  • Position A and Position B edge variants exist for every P and D issue; both are normal, but completists seek matched pairs.

Step 1: Identify Your 2007 Presidential Dollar Mint Mark and Version

2007 Presidential Dollars Coin mint and version comparison

2007 Presidential Dollars version comparison

Start with the portrait on the obverse — it tells you which president. Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison each have distinct busts, so there is no ambiguity once you know what to look for.

Flip to the edge. The actual minting year (2007) and the mintmark (P, D or S) are incused into the edge lettering, not on the face.

The years shown next to the president on the obverse are service dates, not the year the coin was struck. This trips people up constantly.

Position A versus Position B refers to the orientation of the edge lettering relative to the obverse. Hold the coin with the president facing you: if the edge text reads normally (upright), that is one position; if it reads upside-down, that is the other.

Both are normal production variants, not errors.

All 2007 Presidential Dollars are manganese-brass clad, weighing 8.10 grams with an overall composition of 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel. Business strikes came from Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D).

San Francisco (S) produced proofs for collector sets. Satin-finish specimens were included in 2007 uncirculated mint sets and have a distinctly softer luster compared to regular business strikes or sharp proof mirrors.

The full version list for 2007 runs to 36 branches when you account for every combination of mint, president, finish and edge position. Knowing which branch you hold determines the right value comparison.

Step 2: Check Your 2007 Presidential Dollar Grade

2007 Presidential Dollars numeric grading guide

On business-strike Presidential Dollars, wear shows first on the cheek and the highest hair details of the portrait. Turn the coin over and check the Statue of Liberty's torch arm and raised tablet — those are the first reverse spots to soften.

A circulated coin will show obvious flatness on those high points, sometimes with visible contact marks across the fields. An AU piece retains most luster but has a trace of friction on the cheek.

A true MS65 has full original luster with only minor, scattered contact marks that do not distract the eye.

Proof coins are a different animal entirely. They are struck with polished dies on prepared planchets, so the fields are mirror-like.

Grading proofs means looking for hairline scratches, haze and handling marks rather than traditional wear patterns. A proof with heavy hairlines grades lower regardless of how sharp the devices remain.

Satin-finish coins from mint sets have a unique matte-like luster that differs from both business strikes and proofs. Judge them by contact marks and surface preservation, not by the same luster standards you would apply to a business strike.

Use the comparison image to see how each finish and grade level looks side by side on the same coin type.

Step 3: Check 2007 Presidential Dollar Value by Mint and Version

2007 Presidential Dollar — P — George Washington — Position A

2007 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — George Washington — Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

This is the Philadelphia business strike with a George Washington portrait and Position A edge lettering. It is the most commonly encountered version — the coin you will find in a roll from the bank.

At MS65, the USA Coin Book guide estimate is about $4.96. Circulated examples are generally worth face value.

Confirm the P mintmark and 2007 date on the edge, and check that the edge text reads in Position A orientation relative to the obverse portrait.

2007 Presidential Dollar — P — George Washington — satin Position A

2007 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — George Washington — satin Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

The Philadelphia satin-finish Washington with Position A edge lettering came packaged in the 2007 uncirculated mint set. The satin texture is visibly different from a regular business strike — softer, with a muted luster rather than the usual cartwheel shine.

No standard guide price is listed for this version, so value depends on authenticated identity, condition and whether any errors are present. If your coin came from an opened mint set, compare its surface texture carefully against a known business strike before assuming it is satin.

2007 Presidential Dollar — P — George Washington — Position B

2007 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — George Washington — Position B, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

This is the Philadelphia business-strike Washington dollar with Position B edge lettering. It is functionally identical to Position A except the incuse edge text is oriented differently relative to the obverse.

At MS65, the USA Coin Book guide estimate is about $4.96. Neither position is scarcer in normal production, so the value difference is negligible for most collectors.

Confirm the P mintmark and 2007 on the edge.

2007 Presidential Dollar — P — George Washington — satin Position B

2007 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — George Washington — satin Position B, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

Philadelphia satin-finish Washington, Position B edge. Like its Position A sibling, this version was exclusive to the 2007 mint set.

The satin finish shows a distinctive soft sheen across the fields and devices. No standard guide price is listed here — value depends on authenticated identity and overall condition.

Satin coins are easy to confuse with lightly circulated business strikes if you are not looking closely at the luster pattern, so side-by-side comparison helps.

Denver business-strike Washington with Position A edge lettering. Look for the D mintmark on the edge.

At MS65, the USA Coin Book guide estimate is about $4.96. Denver strikes were produced in large quantities, so circulated examples trade at face value.

The portrait and reverse are identical to the Philadelphia version; only the mintmark distinguishes them.

Denver satin-finish Washington, Position A. This came from the 2007 uncirculated mint set.

The D mintmark on the edge and the soft satin luster set it apart from a regular Denver business strike. No standard guide price is adopted for this version, so individual assessment based on authentication and condition applies.

These are only found loose if someone broke open a mint set.

2007 Presidential Dollar — S — George Washington — proof

2007 Presidential Dollar Coin — S — George Washington — proof, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

The San Francisco proof Washington dollar has mirrored fields and sharply struck devices, produced for the 2007 proof set. The S mintmark appears on the edge.

At PR65, the USA Coin Book guide estimate is about $4.96. Proof coins are graded on hairlines and haze rather than wear, so handle with care.

These should not be confused with business strikes or satin specimens — the mirror finish is unmistakable.

Philadelphia business-strike John Adams dollar, Position A edge. The Adams portrait is distinct from Washington's — rounder face, different hairstyle.

At MS65, the USA Coin Book guide estimate is about $4.96. Remember, the dates flanking Adams on the obverse are his presidential service dates, not the year the coin was made.

The actual 2007 date and P mintmark are on the edge.

2007 Presidential Dollar Error List

1. 2007 Presidential Dollar — Missing Edge Lettering

Missing edge lettering errors on 2007 Presidential Dollars occur when the coin bypasses the edge-lettering station entirely, leaving the edge completely plain — no date, no mintmark, no motto. To check, rotate the entire edge under good light and compare with a normal 2007 Presidential Dollar that shows all the expected incuse text.

Because the date and mintmark live on the edge, a missing-edge coin can be difficult to attribute to a specific year without the distinctive annual portrait or a previously attributed holder. Watch out for lookalikes: coins with filed or polished edges can mimic this error, and pre-2009 Sacagawea dollars have a plain edge by design.

Condition, visibility of the blank edge and third-party authentication all affect value — no standard guide price is listed for this error.

2. 2007 Presidential Dollar — Weak / Partial Edge Lettering

The 2007 George Washington dollar is specifically reported with weak or partial edge lettering, where the incuse text is unusually faint, shallow or interrupted rather than completely absent. Examine the full circumference closely, ideally under magnification, and photograph any remaining letters for comparison.

This is different from the missing-edge error above — some lettering is present, just poorly struck. It is also different from ordinary shallow lettering that falls within normal production tolerances, or from edges that have been worn smooth through circulation or deliberate abrasion.

The degree of weakness matters: a coin with barely legible text across the entire edge is more distinctive than one with a single soft letter. No standard guide price is listed, so value depends on condition, the extent of the weakness and the specific authentication of the error.
