2010 Presidential Dollar Coin Value: How Much Is It Worth?

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin Value: How Much Is It Worth?

The 2010 Presidential Dollar series covers four presidents — Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, and Abraham Lincoln — struck at up to three mints in business, satin, and proof finishes. Guide estimates for explicitly listed grades range from about $4.61 in MS65 to $7.29 in PR65, depending on mint, design, and finish.

Most circulated examples trade near face value, so identifying your specific version matters before assuming any premium.

Fast Way to Identify Your 2010 Presidential Dollar

Upload clear photos of the front and back of your 2010 Presidential Dollar for a preliminary identification. The portrait tells us which president you have, and the edge lettering carries the actual mint year and mintmark.

A shot of the edge helps too, since that is where several collectible errors show up on this series.

Which 2010 Presidential Dollar Versions Are Worth Money?

  • Satin-finish versions (P and D, both Fillmore and Pierce) from collector mint sets require individual assessment — no standard guide price is listed, so authenticated examples may carry a premium over ordinary strikes.
  • San Francisco proof Fillmore and Pierce dollars carry a guide estimate around $7.29 in PR65, the highest listed value among explicitly graded 2010 Presidential Dollars.
  • Edge-lettering errors — weak, missing, or doubled — are reported for 2010 Presidential Dollars and can add value depending on severity and authentication.
  • Business-strike versions from Philadelphia and Denver are guided around $4.61 at MS65, so condition and originality matter when seeking above-face-value returns.

Step 1: Identify Your 2010 Presidential Dollar Mint Mark and Version

2010 Presidential Dollars Coin mint and version comparison

2010 Presidential Dollars version comparison

Start with the portrait. Each of the four 2010 presidents has a distinct obverse design, and you need to know which one you are holding before anything else.

The reverse on all four shows the Statue of Liberty.

Next, check the edge. The date (2010), mintmark (P, D, or S), and motto are incused into the rim — not on the flat faces.

The years shown near the portrait are presidential service dates, not the coin's issue year. Many people confuse those.

Position A versus Position B refers to how the edge lettering is oriented relative to the obverse. Hold the coin with the obverse facing you and the top of the president's head pointing up.

If the edge text reads normally from left to right, that is Position A; if it reads upside-down, Position B. Both are normal production variants, not errors.

The coin is manganese-brass clad, weighing 8.10 grams, with an overall composition of 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel. Satin-finish specimens came only in collector mint sets and have a distinctive matte luster that differs from both the bright business strike and the mirror-like proof.

San Francisco (S) mint pieces are proofs sold in collector proof sets.

Step 2: Check Your 2010 Presidential Dollar Grade

2010 Presidential Dollars numeric grading guide

Focus on the president's cheek and hair first — those are the highest points and the first places to lose detail. On the reverse, check Liberty's torch and the folds of her robe for flattening.

A coin with full, sharp hair strands above the ear and no wear on the cheek is likely Mint State. Once you see smoothing on the cheek or the highest hair curls, you are looking at circulated grades.

Compare your coin against the reference image, which shows circulated, About Uncirculated, and Mint State examples side by side.

Proofs should have mirrored fields and sharp frosted devices. Hairline scratches from mishandling lower a proof's grade quickly, so tilt the coin under a single light source and look across the flat fields.

Satin specimens have a soft, even luster without the mirror finish of a proof or the cartwheel shine of a business strike — do not mistake that matte texture for wear.

Step 3: Check 2010 Presidential Dollar Value by Mint and Version

2010 Presidential Dollar — P — Millard Fillmore — Position A

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — Millard Fillmore — Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

This is the Philadelphia business strike of the Millard Fillmore dollar with Position A edge lettering. Fillmore's portrait faces right with a high forehead and receding hairline — hard to mistake once you have seen it.

The edge reads normally when the obverse is face-up with the president's head at the top. A guide estimate places this at about $4.61 in MS65.

Circulated examples typically trade near face value.

2010 Presidential Dollar — P — Millard Fillmore — satin Position A

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — Millard Fillmore — satin Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

The satin-finish Fillmore from Philadelphia in Position A came packaged in the 2010 U.S. Mint uncirculated set. Its surface has a uniform matte luster, softer than a business strike's cartwheel and nothing like a proof's mirror.

If your coin came loose and you are unsure of the finish, compare it under a direct light — satin pieces lack the bright reflective flash of a regular strike. No standard guide price is listed for this version, so value depends on authenticated identity, condition, and whether any errors are present.

2010 Presidential Dollar — P — Millard Fillmore — Position B

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — Millard Fillmore — Position B, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

Same Philadelphia business strike of Fillmore, but here the edge lettering reads upside-down when the obverse faces you with the portrait upright — that is Position B. This is completely normal production, not an error.

The guide estimate is about $4.61 at MS65, identical to Position A. Most collectors do not pay a meaningful difference between the two positions on standard business strikes.

2010 Presidential Dollar — P — Millard Fillmore — satin Position B

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — Millard Fillmore — satin Position B, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

This is the satin-finish Fillmore from Philadelphia with Position B edge orientation. Like its Position A counterpart, it was issued in collector mint sets and shows that distinctive matte texture.

No standard guide price is adopted for satin specimens, so each coin's value hinges on its authenticated finish, preservation, and any verified errors. Satin pieces removed from original packaging and handled carelessly can pick up contact marks that are easy to see on the soft surface.

2010 Presidential Dollar — D — Millard Fillmore — Position A

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — D — Millard Fillmore — Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

The Denver business strike of the Fillmore dollar with Position A edge lettering. Look for the D mintmark incused on the edge alongside the date.

The guide estimate sits at about $4.61 in MS65. In lower grades or with noticeable wear, these generally trade at or near face value.

Clean, original surfaces with full hair detail are what push a coin toward that MS65 estimate.

2010 Presidential Dollar — D — Millard Fillmore — satin Position A

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — D — Millard Fillmore — satin Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

Denver's satin-finish Fillmore in Position A, distributed through 2010 mint sets. The D mintmark appears on the edge, and the matte luster separates it from regular Denver business strikes.

No guide price is listed for this version. Value depends on authenticated identity and condition.

If you are trying to confirm the satin finish, compare the coin's surface to a known business strike of the same design — the difference is apparent under good lighting.

Nothing unusual about this version; it is standard Denver production with a normal orientation variant.

2010 Presidential Dollar — D — Millard Fillmore — satin Position B

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — D — Millard Fillmore — satin Position B, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

This is the satin-finish Fillmore from Denver with Position B edge lettering. It shares the same matte collector finish found in mint sets and carries the D mintmark on the edge.

No standard guide price is adopted. Value is assessed individually based on authenticated finish, condition, and any confirmed errors.

These satin pieces tend to tone a bit differently than business strikes over time due to their surface texture.

2010 Presidential Dollar — S — Millard Fillmore — proof

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — S — Millard Fillmore — proof, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

The San Francisco proof Fillmore dollar was sold in the 2010 Presidential Dollar proof set. It features deeply mirrored fields and crisp frosted devices — the contrast gives it a sharp, almost photographic look.

The S mintmark is on the edge. A guide estimate places it at about $7.29 in PR65.

Handle proofs by the edge only; fingerprints on those mirror fields are nearly impossible to remove without damaging the surface. This is a collector finish, not a grade above Mint State.

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — Franklin Pierce — satin Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

Satin-finish Pierce from Philadelphia, Position A, found in the 2010 mint set. The soft matte luster is the giveaway — hold it next to a regular business strike and you will see the difference immediately.

No guide price is listed for this version. Value depends on authenticated identity and preservation.

These are less common in the wild because most remain in their original mint-set packaging.

2010 Presidential Dollar — S — Franklin Pierce — proof

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — S — Franklin Pierce — proof, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

The San Francisco proof of the Franklin Pierce dollar, sold in 2010 proof sets. It carries the S mintmark on its edge and exhibits mirrored fields with frosted portrait detail.

Guide estimate is about $7.29 in PR65. Proofs are graded on a separate scale from Mint State coins — proof is a manufacturing method, not a higher grade.

Hairlines from wiping or improper storage reduce the grade quickly.

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — P — James Buchanan — satin Position A, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

Satin-finish Buchanan from Philadelphia, Position A, issued in the 2010 mint set. The matte texture is the key identifier.

No standard guide price is listed, so value depends on authenticated identity and condition. These are collector pieces that rarely turn up in pocket change.

If your coin has the soft, even luster without any mirror quality, it is likely a satin specimen.

2010 Presidential Dollar — S — James Buchanan — proof

2010 Presidential Dollar Coin — S — James Buchanan — proof, obverse and reverse, with date and mint-location details

San Francisco proof of the James Buchanan dollar. The S mintmark is on the edge and the coin has fully mirrored fields with frosted devices.

Guide estimate is about $7.29 in PR65. Buchanan proofs look sharp when well preserved but are susceptible to haze if stored in non-archival holders.

A proof is a finish, not a grade above Mint State — keep that distinction in mind when evaluating.

2010 Presidential Dollar — P — Abraham Lincoln — Position A

Philadelphia business strike of the Abraham Lincoln dollar, Position A edge. Lincoln's bearded portrait is the easiest of the four 2010 presidents to recognize.

The P mintmark and 2010 date are on the edge. Guide estimate is about $4.61 at MS65.

Lincoln's popularity as a historical figure does not translate into a rarity premium here — these were produced in large quantities.

San Francisco proof of the Abraham Lincoln dollar, sold in 2010 proof sets. The S mintmark is on the edge.

Mirrored fields and frosted devices give it the classic proof appearance. Guide estimate is about $7.29 in PR65.

Lincoln proofs tend to be popular with collectors who assemble presidential proof sets, but the grade and surface quality drive the actual value. Handle by the edge and store in an archival-quality holder.

2010 Presidential Dollar Error List

1. 2010 Presidential Dollar — Weak / Partial Edge Lettering

Weak edge lettering on a 2010 Presidential Dollar means the incuse inscriptions — date, mintmark, and motto — appear unusually faint or partially struck into the rim. Rotate the entire edge under magnification and note which letters are affected.

Some coins show only a portion of the inscription at reduced depth while the rest looks normal.

Do not confuse this with ordinary shallow lettering caused by circulation wear or deliberate abrasion. A genuinely weak strike will show consistent softness in a specific area rather than the random smoothing you see from a coin rolling around in a pocket for years.

The value of a weak-edge-lettering piece depends on the severity of the weakness, the coin's overall condition, and third-party authentication confirming the error.

2. 2010 Presidential Dollar — Missing Edge Lettering

A missing-edge-lettering error means the coin's rim is completely smooth — no date, no mintmark, no motto. This is sometimes called a "plain edge" error.

To check, rotate the entire circumference and compare it directly to a normal 2010 Presidential Dollar that has full incuse lettering.

Because the date normally appears only on the edge, a truly plain-edge coin can be difficult to attribute to a specific year without the distinctive annual portrait or a previously attributed certification holder. Watch out for coins that have been filed or polished to remove the lettering intentionally — deliberate alteration leaves tool marks and an unnatural surface texture.

Pre-2009 Sacagawea dollars have a smooth edge by design, so do not confuse those. Value depends on condition, confirmation of the error, and professional authentication.

3. 2010 Presidential Dollar — Doubled Edge Lettering

Doubled edge lettering occurs when the incuse inscriptions are struck into the rim twice, producing two overlapping or offset sets of text around the circumference. You can see repeated date digits, mintmark letters, or motto words sitting beside or slightly shifted from their normal position.

This is not the same as Position A versus Position B, which describes a single set of edge text oriented in one of two normal directions. It also should not be confused with photographic reflections or lighting tricks when examining the edge.

Rotate the coin slowly under magnification to confirm two distinct impressions of the same inscription. Value depends on how clearly the doubling is visible, the coin's overall condition, and whether a third-party service has authenticated and attributed the error.
